The Sprints section in Copado Change Management has a Sprint Wall view that allows you to manage your sprints in a more friendly and agile way. This view provides very useful information regarding the status of the sprint and a whole picture of its content.
Sprint Wall Elements
The sprint summary appears right below the name of the sprint.
You can find the following information:
- Actual Velocity: Number of story points already completed. You can define which user story statuses count against the actual velocity of the sprint. A new custom metadata type has been created for this purpose: Copado Settings > Actual Velocity Statuses. This field contains a comma-separated list of statuses that defines what statuses count as completed when displaying the sprint's velocity.
- Planned Velocity: Total story points planned for the current sprint.
- Days Left: Days left until the end of the sprint.
- Status: Information about the status of the sprint.
In the top left corner, beside the name of the sprint, you can complete the following actions:
- View sprint: If you click on the name of the sprint you will access the sprint's detail page and you will be able to edit it.
- All sprints: List of all the existing sprints.
- Previous sprint: If you click on the back arrow, you will be able to view the previous sprint. Copado checks the start and end dates of all the sprints to determine which one is the previous sprint.
- Next sprint: If you click on the forward arrow, you will be able to view the next sprint.
In the top right corner, there are several icons that allow you to perform different actions:
- Filter: You can click on the first icon to filter the user stories in the sprint by Status, Type or Assignee and just display the user stories that are in progress or that have been developed by a certain user, for instance.
- Chatter: The chatter icon will open the chatter window for the sprint to let your team chat and collaborate adding comments, polls, images, etc.
- Burndown Chart: A burndown chart is a graphical view that compares the current progress of the items in a sprint with the planned progress. The button appears only in ‘Closed’ and ‘Active’ sprints. A Burndown Chart calculation can be scheduled following the steps detailed in the article How to Schedule a Burndown Chart Calculation.
- Kanban Board: You can choose this option to view user stories in a Kanban view.
- Complete Sprint: This check button will appear only if the sprint status is not completed. The possible options to move incomplete user stories in order to complete the sprint are: Backlog, Next Sprint and Split & Move.
- Backlog: The status of all the uncompleted user stories will change to Backlog and the Sprint field will be empty.
- Next Sprint: The sprint of all the uncompleted user stories will change to the next sprint.
- Split & Move: All the uncompleted user stories will be cloned. Cloned user stories will have [Unfinished] text in the story title, and original user stories will have [Continued] text in the story title. The status of the cloned user stories will be Completed. The story points will be calculated based on the progress.
On top of the four icons described above, there are two buttons you can use to create a user story or to mass update user stories in the sprint.
- New User Story: Click on this button to create a new user story and choose a type.
- Mass Update: Sometimes you might want to apply the same action to many items in your sprint. The mass update button will let you save time by applying your changes to all the selected user stories.The fields that you will be able to update through this action are defined in SprintWall_MassUpdate field set, therefore you can modify this view with the fields you consider more relevant for your team.
The sprint view icons will let you choose to display the user stories list view, the tasks view, the drag & drop list view or the Kanban view. The refresh button helps you clear filters or refresh the table if you make any changes to the records page.
In addition to all the actions already detailed above, a few quick actions are available within this view to let you manage the sprint items easily. These actions are the following:
- Column sorting: User stories can be sorted by any column just by clicking on the column header.
- Search: You can find information by typing into the Search input field. The list will be sorted immediately.
- View: The user story view page can be accessible just by clicking on the view icon.
- Edit: Any user story field displayed in the sprint wall can be edited from that view just by clicking on the edit icon.
- Move to the next Sprint: This button will move the user story to the next sprint.
- Remove from the Sprint: This button will leave the user story's Sprint field empty, and the user story will go directly to the backlog.
- Page buttons: You can switch the page by clicking on the ‘next’, ‘previous’, ‘end’ and ‘beginning’ buttons.
The tasks view displays all the user stories of the sprint along with all the tasks related to these user stories. From this view, you will able to create new tasks or in-line edit existing ones. User story tasks can be dragged & dropped in order to easily change the status from/to Not Started, In Progress or Completed.
